Beccles v Bungay Challenge
Whose side are you on!
The
Beccles and Bungay Journal is again organising the Beccles v Bungay
Challenge in which groups, organisations, clubs, pubs, businesses
and societies take on their counterparts from the opposing community
in fun contests.
The challenges could be as simple as the sport you play, the activity
your organisation is involved with, the game your pub customers
are good at (pool or darts for example), or the sort of expertise
your society has.
This may be a history challenge, walking, or quiz – indeed,
almost anything you would like to challenge your counterpart in
Beccles or Bungay on.
Last years activities ranged from arm wrestling and rowing to draughts
and flower arranging. There were even 2 slimming clubs challenging
each other to see whose membership could lose the most combined
weight over the period of the challenge!
The main aim of the Beccles v Bungay challenge, apart from having
good fun, is to raise money for the Waveney Hospice Care, a great
local charity that organises day care relief for carers in a variety
of ways.
The Journal's associate editor Terry Reeve said he wanted to see
at least 20 challenges take place during those two months, and preferably
more.
“It has proved a lot of fun over the past two years and helped
to bring local organisations together socially as well - we want
to build on that and extend it if we can,” he said. “It
is all about community spirit and friendly rivalry.”
So now is the time to think about your challenge and what form
it will take.
To take part, click
here to download and print an entry form.
All challenges need to be entered by March 1st and must
take place between April 1 and May 31 2008.
There is a £5 registration fee, all of which goes to the
Waveney Hospice Care. We would be delighted if those organising
a challenge tried to raise extra funds at their event.
It is important that before registering your challenge with us
you have contacted your opponent in Beccles or Bungay and they have
accepted your challenge and agreed a time and place for it.
At the end of it all, the winning town will receive a Beccles v
Bungay Challenge Trophy. Bungay is currently the champion, so lets
see if Beccles and turn it all around this year! So get your thinking
caps on, and get your challenges organised!
