A view of Beccles

THE Beccles & Bungay Journal was launched in 1933 and for more than 70 years has been at the centre of life in the two Waveney Valley towns as well as the neighbouring communities of Loddon and Halesworth.

Over the decades, it has captured all the proud moments, joys and concerns of the district.

More recently, as population has grown in one of the most delightful rural areas of East Anglia, it has played a leading role in campaining for the best in health, leisure and recreation for its readers, old and new.

The paper also launched the Beccles & Bungay Challenge, bringing its town main towns together in friendly rivalry in a series of contests ranging from the Beccles-Bungay boat race to quizzes, darts, Scrabble, beetle drives and football.

The close relationship with its readers has led to an award-winning rise in circulation to the present weekly average of 7445 copies (2006).
