Plans for state-of-the-art Rifle Hall

ORGANISERS of Halesworth's Gig in the Park will be displaying plans for a state-of-the-art Rifle Hall at next week's festival as part of a bid to take over the running of the historic town building.

100s party at Reeve's ball

MORE than 230 people partied the night away on Friday evening at the Town Reeve's Ball. The event was lavishly accommodated in a huge marquee erected at the Castle Meadow, in front of the castle, and included a champagne reception, three-course meal and entertainment including an international cabaret, as well as dancing.

Subsidised swimming offered at pool

SELECTED groups will be offered subsidised swimming sessions at Beccles Lido when it opens, it was announced last night. In June the Government revealed that it would no longer be able to fund subsidised swimming, however volunteers at the town swimming pool have been able to secure two private grants that will enable them to fill that gap.

Damage to window in Beccles

DAMAGE was caused to a shop window at Hungate in Beccles last Sunday. It appears a male sat on the window sill of the premises causing it to crack. The male is described as white, in his mid-teens to early '20s, of slim build, wearing a light-coloured hooded top and light-coloured baseball cap.

Campaigners welcome Tesco decision

CAMPAIGNERS fighting controversial plans for a Tesco store in a North Suffolk market town have welcomed news the application has been rejected. But the retail giant has not ruled out a supermarket for Halesworth, saying it is still considering its options.
