Bungay's Sunday best in cup
20 November 2009
Bungay Town Sunday 2, Royal Falcons 1
Goals from Alan Remblance and Carl Chenery saw off their Essex visitors and took Bungay into the third round of the FA Sunday Cup.
Bungay, who in the last round had put on an awesome display to knock out Sawston Keys, went into this tie on a high - despite managers Sean Payne and Paul Bullen losing players to injuries midweek.
Royal Falcons kicked the game off and immediately put Bungay under pressure, with Bungay's back four repelling everything that was thrown at them.
On 20 minutes Falcons were on the attack again, and this time Ben Vincent in goal pulled off a top-class save to keep the dream of the next round alive.
Bungay then began to dictate play, especially their influential midfielder Carl Chenery who was bossing everything, and it was Chenery who popped up on 44 minutes with a 25-yard rocket to send Bungay in at the break with the advantage.
In the second half, the unchanged Bungay side came out full of confidence and they were to get their reward five minutes in.
Carl Chenery, driving again at the Falcons' defence, switched play to Alan Remblance, who fired in from the edge of the box.
Falcons then changed things, bringing on an attacking player for a defender, and pressed Bungay's goal for most of the second half.
And on 78 minutes Falcons got what they deserved when the very impressive Lee Springer fired in from 12 yards after Bungay failed to clear their lines.
Bungay probably finished the stronger of the two teams, with Remblance hitting the bar and the impressive Alex Holmes and Chris Sillett - who worked hard down both wings and created so much for Bungay - hitting a post and bar.
Bullen made two late substitutions, introducing Kevin Talbot and Craig Taylor for Hurren and Remblance.
It was a good, solid performance by Bungay, and they will look forward to entering the third round after being drawn away to either North West Neasden (London) or Hammer FC (Hertfordshire).
