A new set of youngsters have been appointed as this year’s Lord Lieutenant’s Cadets.

Those chosen include cadet warrant officer Hannah Roberts from 759 (Beccles) Air Training Corps, Royal Marine cadet corporal James Horton from Beccles Sea Corps, and cadet sergeant Harry Pickess from Lowestoft Detachment, B Company Royal Artillery, Army Cadet Force.

The Lord Lieutenant of Suffolk Lady Euston, presented them each with a framed certificate and gold embroidered badge for each of their uniforms.

This recognises the hard work and dedication each of the cadets has put into their own units and the county of Suffolk during their time in their relative cadet forces.

They will now accompany the Lord Lieutenant during her events within the year.

Cadet warrant officer Hannah Roberts said: “What a fantastic opportunity this is to be the Lord Lieutenants cadet of Suffolk for the next 12 months. It came as a huge surprise as I received the congratulating phone call from wing commander David Mille during the weeks leading up to the presentation.

“Already knowing I was Norfolk and Suffolk Wing Nomination for the ATC Sword75 (Best Female Cadet in the ACO), I was delighted to know I had achieved this as well.

“After being Beccles town mayoral cadet for the past nine months, I will take my experiences from that and I look forward to helping the Lord Lieutenant in her events over the next year while continuing in the role of mayoral cadet for Beccles.

“All three of us have done exceptionally well to have achieved this and I look forward to the year ahead with them.”

Flying Officer Martin Dobson from 759 Beccles Squadron Air Training Corps said: “This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for all three of these cadets and for two of them to be from Beccles just goes to show the quality of the young men and women we have in our towns Cadet Forces.

“If anyone wishes to join one of these award winning units please look us up and see what we have to offer”.
