Waveney District Council aims to resume bin collections on Monday after the “treacherous conditions” forced them to cancel refuse collections for a third successive day.

The council’s bin collection teams are not operating today (Friday) across Waveney as The Beast from the East continues to affect the district.

Waveney District Council tweeted: “Due to the continued treacherous conditions and to ensure the safety of our crews and the public there will be no refuse collection/cleansing crews out in Waveney again today.

“Collections will begin once again on Monday morning and all steps are being taken to ensure we are able to catch up as soon as possible. We will provide further details as and when we can and we thank you for your patience and understanding in these rare and difficult conditions.”

Due to road conditions in and around St John’s Hill in Bungay, the Bungay Pool and Gym is closed today (Friday). Sentinel Leisure Trust, which manages and operates a number of leisure sites on behalf of Waveney District Council, Suffolk County Council and Great Yarmouth Borough Council, have also cancelled all swimming lessons.

They said: “Due to local weather warnings and current conditions, and as we prioritise customer and staff safety, we have taken the decision to cancel all swimming lessons until further notice.

“All sites are open at present, with the exception of Bungay, however this may change depending on staff availability and managers views on access/safety to their sites.”

The Marina Theatre in Lowestoft has also postponed the scheduled showing of the film 3 Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri this afternoon (Friday) while the scheduled screening of RSC Twelfth Night, due to take place tonight at 7pm, will be showcased at a later date.

A Marina Theatre spokesman said: “Due to the ongoing adverse weather conditions and for the safety of public, the decision has been made to cancel this afternoon’s film and postpone tonight’s screening to a later date.

“3 Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri will be cancelled at 2.30pm today but we are showing the film at 2.30pm and 7.30pm on Monday, March 5.

“Patrons can transfer their tickets to either of these times, another film of their choice, or receive a refund. For the screening of RSC Twelfth Night tonight at 7pm we will look to reschedule this and let patrons know early next week.”
