A PARTY has been held to thank all those who helped to stage last year’s Grand Henham Steam Rally.

More than 60 people gathered at the Plough Inn, in Wangford, as chairman of the organising committee Mike Powell-Evans presented cheques of more than £30,000 to the main charities that supported by the rally.

Wangford and District Community Council, Southwold (Sole Bay) Lions Club and the Parochial Church Councils of Sotherton, Wangford cum Henham and Uggeshall all benefited, while a donation was also give to Macmillan Cancer Support.

Mr Powell-Evans also made presentations to Geoff Purkiss, Robin Chater, and Mike Steven-Jones who have retired from the organising committe, while he reported that plans are well underway for this year’s event.

The 37th Grand Henham Steam Rally will be held at Henham Park, off the A12 between Southwold and Beccles, on September 15 and 16.
