A travelling family circus is searching for a member of the public with nerves of steel to become its new knife thrower’s assistant.

Circus Tyanna will be performing at Southwold Common, off York Road, until Saturday, September 9.

The lucky winner will have to do their best statue impression as Todd Christian, circus owner and chief knife-thrower, expertly launches blades at a giant wooden board behind them.

“There are very few jobs in the circus you can just walk into but this is one of them”, said Mr Christian.

“No training is needed you just have to be good at standing still and not be scared of knives.”

Returning to Southwold after a five year absence, the family said they are glad to be back.

“It feels like coming home,” said Mr Christian. “It’s nice for the kids to come back here - it’s the closest thing we get to a summer holiday.”

The circus was purchased as a present for Mr Christian’s daughter Tyanna’s first birthday. Now 10 years old she wows crowds with her contortionist routine while younger brother Laken, seven, causes mischief with his clowning antics.

Laken said: “My favourite thing is seeing everyone laughing and making everyone happy.”

While the young jester is just beginning to learn his craft he hopes to one day mimic his father’s famed blindfolded knife-throwing.

The performing family is completed by mother Claire Fidelia, who is relinquishing her usual role as assistant to aid the running of the circus during its Southwold stay.

She believes the circus is a perfect way for families to enjoy time together this summer.

“If you want to have some good wholesome fun then come on down to the circus”, she said.

“It’s a chance for the family to put down their phones and tablets and have a laugh together.

She added: “The traditional family circus is a dying art and we won’t around forever.”

Shows are performed daily at 2pm, with an extra 7pm show on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Anybody interested in this
once in a lifetime opportunity to be a part of the circus can call the box office on 07536102964.
