Cromer Pier manager Rebecca Wass is heading to a new challenge helping to run a project providing support for the homeless.

Miss Wass, 34, has been running the pier for two summer and winter show seasons - and weathered a destructive storm surge during her time at the landmark entertainment venue.

Her new role, from the beginning of February, is as deputy leader of Emmaus, a charity community
providing work to help rebuild the lives of the homeless on part of the
site of the All Hallows convent at Ditchingham, near Bungay.

Miss Wass, from Norwich, said the post combined her business, teaching and charity skills from theatre, museum, education and youth work.

She would be supporting residents, and seeking to increase income to increase the number for seven to 24.

Miss Wass’s spell at the pier, which began in May 2013 had seen a rise in ticket sales for summer and Christmas shows.

Her proudest moment however was the quick recovery of the venue after the auditorium, and box office were smashed by the storm surge just over a year ago.

“It was terrific team work, and showed the real community spirit at Cromer,” she added.

She was also proud of the theatre open days she introduced which brought in new visitors and customers.
