Aiden Lowe was killed in a crash on the A143 near Gillingham just before midnight on Sunday, when the white BMW he was driving lost control and was in collision with a tree.

In a statement, his family said: “Aiden was the beloved son of David and Tracy and brother to Rachel, Daniel and Matthew. Brother-in-law to Matt and Emily and a much loved uncle to Edith.

“All the family would like to express their heartfelt thanks for all the messages of love and sympathy for their wonderful son and brother, we are all absolutely devastated.

“Special thanks to Louise, Molly, Steve and Charlie for their support at this very sad time.”

Mr Lowe played for Bungay Town Football Club before transferring to Beccles Caxton FC ahead of the start of the season.

Bungay Town yesterday announced they had cancelled all adult male football matches this weekend as a mark of respect for Mr Lowe.

They have also agreed with Hindringham to reverse the fixture on September 23 so it is at home, giving players and club members the chance to pay their respects properly at a first team match.

Club manager Richard Daniels said: “The news of Aiden Lowe’s passing is nothing short of the worst of anything I have had to deal with, such a tragic loss, at such a young age.

“I have known Aiden since he was a young 16-year-old at Kirkley. It was clear to me then that he was a talented player with so much ability. I kept an eye on his progress because I always treated David as a very good friend. It was with great pleasure that, when I returned to Bungay last season, Aiden agreed to re-join the club. For me it was a signing that I saw make us promotion challengers. At times, he could be a match winner on his own and what will stick in my mind was the 90 minutes he gave me away at Mundford last season. Simply brilliant.

“He was a lovely lad to manage, if not sometimes hot headed, but always wanted the team to win. I am sure he would go home on a Saturday night and have a moan to his dad about the way we did things but that was fine as I knew he was Bungay through and through.”

In a Tweet yesterday, the Anglian Combination league said it was encouraging all of its clubs to observe a minute’s silence this weekend in Mr Lowe’s memory.

Floral tributes have been left at the scene of the collision and near to the roundabout in Gillingham.

Police are keen to speak to anyone who witnessed the collision, particularly the occupants of two dark-coloured people-carrier type vehicles which stopped close to the scene but left before giving any contact details. Witnesses should contact Acle Roads Policing Team on 101.
