WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange faces arrest after breaching his bail conditions when he applied for political asylum at Ecuadorian Embassy last night.

The 40-year-old Australian is inside the building in Knightsbridge, London, having gone there yesterday afternoon to request asylum under the United Nations Human Rights Declaration.

The move followed his failed bid to avoid extradition to Sweden to face sex crime allegations.

The Metropolitan Police today confirmed Assange is subject to arrest after breaching one of the bail conditions imposed on him by the High Court, which was to stay at his bail address between 10pm and 8am.

Assange has previously stayed at Ellingham Hall, near Bungay, and reported to Beccles Police station as part of his bail conditions between December 17, 2010 and December 15, 2011, before moving to Kent.

Ellingham Hall is owned by Capt Vaughan Smith, founder of the Frontline Club and supporter of Assange.
