Prizes have been confirmed for the town’s upcoming Battle of the Bands, which is due to be officially launched on April 30.

Over the coming weeks, bands from across the region will battle it out, with a wealth of opportunities on offer for the winner.

The competition will launched on April 30 at a special registration event at the Tower Arena, which will be headlined by Nirvana UK.

The event has been organised by Great Yarmouth-based charity The Anchorage Trust, and is the brainchild of its fundraising co-ordinator James Sinclair.

He said: “As a charity we are all about giving people exciting opportunities and there is a lot of talent that we will be showcasing at these events.

“I’m really excited to see what the bands taking part have to offer.”

The charity has linked up with music college Access to Music for the event, which has also formed a partnership with East Coast College to offer music courses to young people in the Great Yarmouth borough.

Mr Sinclair added: “Our link with Access to Music has added to opening up opportunities for young people, which is what we stand for as a charity. We are working together to make this an event that is all about offering opportunities.”

Among these opportunities, the eventual competition winners will receive a slot on the Access to Music stage at July’s Latitude Festival and the chance to support the UK Foo Fighters at the Tower Arena in September.

They will also receive the chance to record an album and £1,000 in vouchers for musical equipment.

The runners-up will receive £500 of music shop vouchers and 10 free tickets to the UK Foo Fighters gig, while the third placed act will get £250 of vouchers and five free tickets to the September concert.

The launch event will also see performances from As December Falls and Burn the Headlines, before battle commences on Wednesday, May 17.

Heats will then be held every other Wednesday at the Tower Arena, until a winner is crowned.

Tickets for the launch event on April 30 are £5 on the door, at which bands can register.
