A nursery near Bungay has received an outstanding rating in an Ofsted inspection.

Stepping Stone Children’s Nursery School said they were “absolutely delighted with the outcome.”

The nursery, in Norwich Road, Woodton, has 47 pupils aged between two and four. When it was previously inspected in January 2014 it was given a good rating.

During an inspection, which was carried out last month, inspector Karen Harris said the nursery has “an in-depth understanding of all children” and “staff skilfully plan activities that ignite children’s curiosity and imagination and promote their enthusiasm for learning.”

Pupils at the school are said to be “extremely well prepared for their future learning and eventual move on to school.”

The report highlighted the work of nursery manager Kim Harper saying she “demonstrates a strong commitment towards maintaining excellence in all areas.”

Miss Harper said: “Everyone has put in lots of hard work throughout the term. We plan on holding afternoon tea with all the parents and children to celebrate.”

The inspection report added: “All staff have a very secure knowledge of child protection procedures. They fully understand their role in protecting children and keeping them safe. Knowledge gained is used exceedingly well to provide targeted strategies to rapidly close any identified gaps in children’s learning.

“Children are active, motivated and inquisitive as they experience an exciting mix of adult-led activities and free play.”

Nursery pupils were also praised. The report said: “Children behave exceptionally well. They share, take turns and value each other’s differences.

“The wonderful interaction and complete involvement clearly displays how much children are learning through the highly skilled interactions with the

staff.”

The education watchdog suggests possible improvements may be made by reviewing the impact of “recent improvements to the systems for monitoring children’s progress have on maintaining children’s already excellent learning.”

Miss Harper said: “I am immensely proud of every member of staff at the nursery and we are so lucky to have such a supportive group of parents. All the children are a pleasure to be with every day.”
