A ceremony to commemorate the lives of navy soldiers and the maritime efforts of men and women of Suffolk during First World War will take place next month on Sunday, October 7.

The only event memorialising in Suffolk for maritime efforts will begin with a parade from the docks on Hamilton Road, forming up from 1pm and leaving at 1.30pm, along Whapload Road and up Cart Score before entering Belle Vue Park.

A dedication ceremony will then take place in the garden, where thousands of knitted poppies will be placed on the poppy-shaped memorial garden.

There will also be a formal parade and service of commemoration at the Royal Navy Patrol Service Memorial, with the reviewing officer, Vice Admiral Sir Jonathan Woodcock KCB OBE, the guest of honour.

Other local representatives and dignitaries will also attend the commemoration, with naval patrol boats such as the HMS Trumpeter and HMS Explorer viewable from the harbour.
