This was the disgusting sight of fly-tipping that greeted residents of Beccles.

The pile of rubbish, including old TVs, plastic cans and rubble, was dumped on Beccles Common and discovered on the morning of Friday, May 11.

There have been fears charges to leave DIY waste at Norfolk recycling centres could increase fly-tipping across the region, with rubble now costing £3 per 80 litre bag.

A spokesman for Waveney District Council said: “We are aware of recent fly-tipping at Beccles Common and our partners Waveney Norse will work with Beccles Town Council to remove the waste, once it has been checked for evidence of those responsible.

“Fly-tipping is unpleasant, unnecessary and costly to remove - one of the most effective ways to reduce fly-tipping is for householders to ensure any waste removed from their home is done so only by a registered waste carrier.”
