Beccles Town welcomed St Andrews to College Meadow for a league encounter and recorded an emphatic win.

The opening 15 minutes saw both sides probing for a decent opening and the visitors’ defence looking the more nervous.

Clark picked up a defensive error but shot over the bar while Hurren’s long cross was headed over by Clark and a free-kick from Hurren was blocked before Cable was forced into action when a free- kick was headed back across goal.

Clark and Hurren both had shots blocked before Clark went past a defender and his excellent cross was well met by Hurren’s head to open the scoring, which was the last action of the half.

At the start of the second half Bishop made a run down the right only to have his final shot blocked. Seconds later he made another good run and got in a perfect cross for Hurren to nod in his second. From a corner, Clark latched on to a rebound but his snap shot was well saved.

On 53 minutes a defensive mix-up let Jones-Blackett run through to beat Cable from close in to make it 2-1.

On 59 minutes Bishop was upended and was forced to go off to be replaced by Bailey who was immediately in action with one of his runs leaving defenders in his wake but his shot was saved.

Bee made a great run down the right and cut in to beat the keeper make it 3-1 on 70 minutes. Clark went close after Hurren had won the ball and set him away and a minute later got his goal when he robbed a defender and walked the ball past the keeper.

The hard working Brown was replaced by Tom Harmer who immediately looked at home in the senior side. On 78 minutes Bailey mad a great run down the left past two defenders and slid a great shot under the keeper for 5-1. With five minutes to go a harsh penalty was awarded to the visitors and Godwin-Cargor stepped up to reduce the arrears and the game ended 5-2 to the Wherrymen with another well deserved three points, with Heaney and Brown running midfield and Lovelock and Boyd locking up the defence.

Beccles: Cable, Hunt, Boyd, Lovelock, Staines, Brown, Heaney, Bee, Bishop, Hurren, Clark. Subs: Bailey, Grimmer, Harmer.

The Reserves travelled to Westerfield in the Suffolk Senior Reserves Cup with a weakened side due to injuries and call-offs and went out on penalties 4-3 after a 1-1 draw. Luke Pearce was on target, with Waterman, Godbold and Udell converting their penalties.

The Quay kept to its up and down face at Beccles, sometimes in five or six swims really good fishing, making 30lbs of mainly small bream, but 40 yards away only a moderate bag. Certainly the most prolific area has been sitting down where the boat is behind on the grass, or nearer to the Harbourmasters building when the tide has fallen away. This week quite a few good catches came from out on the waggler with the skimmers tending to wait until the bait to build up before coming in. Perch are the bonus and to a good size in the swims where only the odd skimmer passes through stopping to feed up nearer the river end taking a whole worm amidst the cupped choppy feed. Still craving for the colour to provoke a feeding frenzy the roach shoals roam the river never seemingly settling long anywhere as pike packs push them around at speed.
