Woodford dominated the opening exchanges, converting a penalty.

Beccles soon switched on and found themselves in their oppenents’ half. From a scrum, Rix broke off well and popped to Larrauri who in turn, chipped and dived over for what looked a great try. However this was not to be the case as the referee disallowed it for being held up, to the dismay of the crowd.

Beccles continued to dominate and were soon rewarded with a penalty, which Wade converted.

Before half-time, the hosts had the chance to take the lead but a penalty sailed just wide.

In the second half Woodford started to play the wide passing game that they love, creating the space to score the first try of the game. This was followed by two penalties in quick succession to make the score 14-3.

A long spell of possession from Beccles saw another potential try scorer being held up before Sale found Starks, who carved through the line. He was supported well by Williamson who finished well, with the try being converted by Wade.

Beccles’ comeback hopes were dashed when Ling was sin binned for a shoulder charge. The Woodford kicker stepped up and converted to settle the issue.
