Bungay continued their fine run by making it four consecutive victories in a tight match against hosts Old Buckenham.

Chasing a total of 202-5 they secured a three wicket win in the final over and are now third in Norfolk Alliance Division Three.

Asked to field first, Bungay made a solid start but were unable to make an early breakthrough. The total was over 100, albeit from nearly 30 overs, before a run out from Teddy Mattocks removed skipper Mark Dunnett for 38.

James Alexander, the other opener, soon followed, stumped off the economical Dave Fuller for 51.

Tight bowling and excellent fielding always kept the total in check as the Bucks closed on 202-5, A comedy moment was the dismissal of the dangerous Peter Free (34) who ran more than halfway down the wicket to smack a ball that had slipped out of Charlie Mattocks’ hand, only to pick out Will Hunt on the boundary.

The Bungay reply started solidly before, with 65 on the board, David Fuller was dismissed for 29. Will Lewis, although unwell, continued to make a fine 60 but wickets were beginning to fall cheaply as William Hunt (8), Chris Fuller (14), and Tom York (8) came and went.

Jack Masters and Matt Williams came together needing 60 off the last 12 overs and after Masters was bowled for 17 and Jak Clark (5) soon followed, 41 were needed from the final eight overs, with seven wickets down. Williams (23 not) and Charlie Mattocks (13 not out) then both batted with commendable calmness as victory was sealed from the opening ball of the final over.

Bungay entertain fourth placed Acle A on Saturday.

Before that the club are holding a barbeque at Maltings Meadows this evening.

The fun gets under way at 6pm and will include a match between parents and juniors, rounders matches, food and bar.
