Love them or loathe them – and there are very few who sit in between – it’s impossible to ignore Manchester United and their quite magnificent record under Sir Alex Ferguson.

Thanks in part to this, they’ll run out to face the Canaries at Carrow Road tomorrow as Betfred’s 8/15 favourites, whereas City, despite enjoying home advantage, will kick off as bet365’s enormous 11/2 underdogs.

The Canaries were unlucky to lose 2-0 at Old Trafford earlier in the season after comfortably holding their hosts to a goalless first half. However, as United have scored first in 20 of their 25 Premier League matches this term, perhaps it was only a matter of time before they did so in front of their own supporters. They’re 4/11 (Ladbrokes) to notch the opener tomorrow. Norwich are 11/5 in the same market.

Yet despite Manchester United’s stature, it would be foolish for City’s players to be in awe of their opponents. Of United’s current crop, perhaps only two would be automatic choices in their great teams of a decade ago. Accordingly, the likelihood of another scoreless first half, priced at 23/10 by Boylesports, cannot be discounted, while Skybet’s 8/11 for both teams to score suggests bookies are confident that the Canaries will put their guests under pressure.

In what, on paper, looks a one-sided contest, punters searching for value have much from which to choose.

For example, Stan James’s 16/5 for the match to end all square has attracted steady support, as has William Hill’s 11/8 for the opening 45 minutes to finish in stalemate. Elsewhere, Paddy Power offers 6/1 against Norwich retaining a clean sheet as Stan James also chalks 11/1 against the Canaries winning while preventing United from scoring. Bear in mind, however, that the visitors have failed to score only once in the league this term.

Then there is BetVictor’s scorecast market where a Grant Holt goal combined with a 1-0 home win is priced at 66/1. Blue Square get in on the act, chalking 7/1 about City enjoying a one goal margin of victory.
