I can still remember when the announcement came through that Norwich was to be one of a handful of places to benefit from millions of pounds of cash designed to improve cycling routes in the city.

Boxing could do with any bad press right now. Dodgy judging at massive world title fights, freak shows between gold-encrusted fighters who should know better, and celebrities who think the ability to remain fit and throw a punch entitles them to be called pro boxers.

I should go on holiday more often. When I left these shores two weeks ago the effects of two thumping away defeats were weighing heavily on the pre-season positivity of most Canary fans and there were even dire predictions of a season battling relegation doing the rounds on social media.

So the thing is, with this week’s column I really wanted to get to the heart of such a crucial issue. That’s what I hope, so that when it comes to the crunch and we all think about what things could look like, with our partisan specs and love for the game, which is a really good game of course…

Michael Bailey

Chris Wilder’s post-match interview after the Bramall Lane game was one of the worst cases of sour grapes I have ever witnessed. He blamed everyone and everything – apart from himself and his players for their loss against a rejuvenated Norwich City.

Timm Klose

It was very apt that the clearest sign of steel from a Daniel Farke side came in the Steel City.

Alex Neil

One of the most common sentiments actors express in interviews is that they prefer playing baddies.

Nelson Oliveira

Acrimony, controversy, late buses and lack of respect – Michael Bailey grinds out six lessons from a not so quiet Norwich City win at Sheffield United…

NCFC

Era: noun a long and distinct period of history.

Premier League

City head to Bramall Lane, the scene of the one and only own goal of my career, tomorrow.

Ireland

It wasn’t the best example of the beautiful game on Tuesday night – but it will take more than that for football to shed its hard-earned monicker.

Norwich City

It’s good to see some old friends at the start of September.

Norwich City clearly used the break well – Michael Bailey tees up his six things from the Canaries’ Birmingham victory.

Norwich City

Another school term, another shake-up for one of Norwich’s biggest schools.

It wasn’t as emotional for me as it would have been for the men who inhabit it every day of the week, but as I left the Kickstop Gym this week there was a tinge of sadness at the possibility that I will never set foot inside the place again.

Norwich City

With no City game to write about I took the opportunity to chat with Doug Thomson, a West Yorkshire-based journalist and Huddersfield fan, about the parallels between the difficult introductions to English football encountered by David Wagner and Daniel Farke.

Birmingham City – a team I managed to score a few goals past – are tomorrow’s visitors to Carrow Road in a bottom-of-the-table clash, with both clubs on four points, having won just one league game this season and losing their last two.

Northern Ireland

The fact there was no Big Ben chiming at 11pm probably summed it up.

Opinion: Motty – voice of a football nation for half a century

“This is almost fantasy football.”

The old adage that empty vessels make the most noise rang true again when the transfer window closed last week.

The Walks was a very pleasant place to be as King’s Lynn Town took their unbeaten league run to four matches.

Norwich City

I mentioned in my very first column of the season that one key word for the season ahead would be patience.

Wales

Andros Townsend £27m. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain £40m. Neymar £200m. Ousmane Dembele £96m.

You would have got long odds on a Championship table that suggests Norwich City have the most porous defence and Preston the tightest.

Being paid to cover the football team you support is a huge privilege.

After an afternoon that only raised questions about where Norwich City are headed, MICHAEL BAILEY tries to pin down six things learned after a desperate day at The Den.

Norwich City

I am not proud of the fact that the last time I saw Sir Bobby Robson I asked him to autograph a Norwich v Ipswich team sheet. It’s not the ‘done thing’ for a journalist, you see.

United Kingdom

While fans may all regularly repeat the mantra of “this is going to take time”, believing in it can be another matter when witnessing a substandard performance like that at Villa Park or the plethora of unforced errors in the first half against Charlton.

Wes Hoolahan

The biggest development this season has been my use of the hashtag #WIP – after all, in Twitter world Work In Progress just takes up too many characters given the countless times it seems to be required.

Norwich City

A good cup win in midweek was just what was needed after losing at Villa Park last weekend.
