A man is due to appear in court next month charged with a series of dine and dash offences across two counties.

Craig Sharp, 52, is due to attend Chelmsford Magistrates' Court on February 14, charged with five cases of fraud by false representation.

Sharp, of Dockfield Avenue, Harwich, is alleged to have committed the five offences between May 2023 and November 2023.

The cases relate to incidents in The Angel in Wangford, in between Beccles and Southwold, and The Angel in Halesworth and at premises in Clacton, Chelmsford and Aldeburgh.

Sharp is alleged to have first checked into The Angel in Wangford, on Saturday, November 18.

He supposedly stayed there for two nights, and on each night ate a meal, and the establishment claimed that on one evening he bought a round of drinks for the regulars at the bar.

On Monday, November 20, he is said to have checked himself out without paying his £652 tab and checked himself into The Angel in Halesworth.

During a three-night stay at the Halesworth's 16th-century building, Sharp allegedly ran up a £452 tab. He is said to have had a meal on each night and bought chocolates to thank staff for their hospitality.

Among the items he is said to have ordered were 15 pints of Birra Moretti, eight pints of Guinness, seven rum and cokes, three pints of Aspall, five bags of Mini Cheddars and three meals and other side dishes.
