With spring well underway, Mediterranean temperatures are heading to Suffolk with the county expected to be hotter than Barcelona.

After a lasting spell of cold and wet weather, strong winds from the south are pushing up warmer weather meaning parts of the county could see temperatures above 20C.

Areas in west Suffolk are expected to be the warmest with Mildenhall and Brandon expected to reach 21C on Saturday - hotter than Barcelona, which is forecast to only reach 19C.

Despite the warmer temperature it will not feel like summer just yet, with sunny intervals masked by windy and cloudy conditions.

A Met Office spokeswoman said: "This weekend will be unsettled, with a warm front pushing an area of rain North over many areas, bringing some very warm air over southern parts.

"Temperatures could be well above average in the South East but tempered by wind and rain elsewhere."

After the weekend temperatures are forecast to return to the average for April with highs of 14C expected at the start of next week.
