Beautician to open HD Beauty & Aesthetics salon in Bungay

Hannah Day, 31, will be celebrating the opening of HD Beauty & Aesthetics in Lower Olland Street in Bungay on Monday with drinks and a tour. 

Ms Day, who suffers from chronic fatigue syndrome, said the salon comes as a result of many years of hard work and overcoming personal difficulties.

"I started in the beauty industry in 2017 when my eldest son first started school," she said. 

"I was having a few treatments done myself and it always made me feel better about myself so I wanted to help make others feel the same."

Saving her money, Ms Day was able to rent a room in a local hairdresser where she built a sizeable client base and in May 2019 she took over her grandmother's conservatory and converted it into a beauty salon. 

The salon was a success, allowing her to rent a small office just around the corner and hire additional beauticians.

But when the coronavirus pandemic happened, she was left with only a tenth of her previous clients. 

After building her business back "from the ground up", a new opportunity presented itself.

"When the building opposite my current salon became empty, taking it on was a no-brainer," she said.

"Earlier this month, we collected the keys after a long wait and started making the transition across.

"The premises has a much bigger floor space and we're able to have more private treatment rooms and a beautiful reception room for clients to wait in."

Ms Day and her team plan to add a sunbed to their list of services and have "big plans" for a small courtyard within the grounds. 

She added: "Juggling life, illness, my boys and the business is really hard but I want to prove to my children that you can do anything you want to and to not let anything stop you from achieving your dreams."
