A blaze at an industrial unit holding vintage cars was tackled by more than 10 fire crews.

Boasts Industrial Park in Worlingham, in College Lane, was the scene of commotion this afternoon as emergency services responded to the call.

Firefighters were called following reports a garage was “well alight” in College Lane at 1.48pm.

Crews from Woodbridge, Loddon, Harleston, Gorleston, Leiston, Great Yarmouth, Wentham, Halesworth and Beccles, as well as north and south Lowestoft, were at the scene of fire.

No-one was believed be inside the property at the time of the blaze.

Police were called to the scene just after 2pm and closed off Garden Lane while crews battled the blaze.

Station commander Wayne Crabb, who is based at Lowestoft South Fire Station but oversees operations in the north half of Suffolk, said: “We were called at about 1.50pm this afternoon to a fire in an industrial unit containing vintage cars.

“We arrived from Lowestoft and, by the time we got here, the first crews on the scene had done a really good job.

“They’d had to do some quite aggressive fire fighting to stop the blaze spreading to adjacent buildings and now we’re just dampening down.

“There’s been some really good work by our on-call crews turning up to provide support the entire time.

“We’ve had a drone overhead with a thermal image camera to check whether there’s anything hazardous inside the building to which we can alert our crews.

“We’re scaling activities down now but we’ll stay here into the night if needed, and there will be a fire investigation over the course of the weekend to establish the cause.”

A spokesman for the emergency services confirmed the blaze was under control by 3.53pm.
