Beccles Lido Ltd, which is working to get Beccles open air pool open again next summer, reached the final regional stage of the British Gas Green Streets competition.
The group gave a presentation in Norwich on Monday night but were unsuccessful.
However Beccles Lido director Maureen Saunders said that the volunteers are still determined to use sustainable energy sources at the attraction.
She said: “There were three finalists from this region. One was another swimming pool from Cambridgeshire and the winning project was a toddler group.
“This is disappointing, but it hasn't scuppered our plans at all. There are some other grants which we could apply for, so we are still hopeful that we can get money for our plans.”
The group had applied for funding for a pool cover with solar panels which would generate enough power to heat the main and toddler pools, money to replace the old boiler and to fix a leak in the pool.
