More than 200 people will be receiving Christmas hampers as part of the Waveney Foodbank campaign thanks to the generosity of a Bungay greengrocer and its customers.
Trickett and Sons fruit and vegetable shop in Market Place, Bungay, began collecting donations for the foodbank appeal earlier this month.
Customers and friends made donations and the store also gave a donation for the appeal.
Staff were then able to purchase fruit and vegetables from wholesalers at cost price and pass them on to the foodbank.
Craig Trickett said: “Waveney Foodbank just picked up loads of vegetables and satsumas.
“Brilliant. Thank you all for your generosity and have made up 50 hampers so far.
“That means over 200 people can celebrate Christmas properly.”
Mr Trickett also arranged for schoolchildren from the Bungay area to decorate the picket fence around the town’s main Christmas tree in St Mary’s Street.
“The schools responded magnificently and there are some wonderful decorations drawn and painted by the children which have added to the festive atmosphere in the town centre,” said Mr Trickett.
