A care home's residents have been raising a glass to a revamp which has seen a communal lounge transformed into a pub.

The Highfield Arms has officially opened at Highfield House Care Home, on London Road in Halesworth, much to the delight of residents.

The pub was opened by resident Jonathon Harvey with home manager Martin Bargeman, with residents served their favourite tipple - along with a mince pie and festive music.

Mr Bargeman, who thanked the Angel Hotel in Halesworth and Southwold brewery Adnams, said: "The lounge at the home was always a nice area with its big picture windows, but when we suggested converting it to a pub the residents were all for it.

"With a refit and some fantastic donations from the local Halesworth community, we’ve created a lovely area of the home that we can use for activities, social occasions and events, as well as it being a lovely location for residents to enjoy their favourite tipple.

"The wellbeing of our residents is something we take really seriously, so to have something like this at the home is brilliant."
