Bungay has found itself in the media spotlight after national newspapers picked up on the fact the town is said to be the epicentre of Satanism in the UK.

As we reported last month, according to data from the 2021 Census Bungay has the highest number of Satanists than any other area in England and Wales per head of population.

The Daily Star's front page splash read: "THE DEVIL'S MOVED TO SUFFOLK".

The Daily Mail, The Sun, The Mirror, WalesOnline, TimeOut Magazine and The Week also all reported the Census findings.

The data shows that 70 people in the town and the surrounding - and apparently inaptly named - 'Saints' villages identify as followers of Satan.

This equates to around 1pc of the population, with roughly one in one hundred people out of the 8,500 in the town and nearby area believing in the devil.

One theory among locals is that it might be linked to the Black Dog legend, which in recent years has been used to promote the Suffolk town.
