The green light has been given to strengthen a bridge at the Geldeston Locks Inn pub along the Waveney stretch of the Norfolk Broads.

The Geldeston Locks is situated at the bottom of Locks Lane off Station Road, The Geldeston Locks Pub is very popular in the warmer months.

The bridge undergoing strengthening is on Locks Lane where the bumpy track crosses dyke.

The proposal is to drive timber posts into the ground, offset approximately 500mm from the face of the existing masonry abutment.

These are to be faced with treated timber boards to provide a formwork and concreted in position.

All the Broads Authority, Environment Agency, Geldeston Parish Council and Beccles Town Council have all approved the proposed plans.

The date of when work will begin is yet to be confirmed.

But one of the conditions outlined by the Broads authority is that work must be completed within three years of planning approval.
