Investigations into the cause of a fire which destroyed a former community centre in a Suffolk village are ongoing.

The building in Rectory Lane, Worlingham, was gutted by a large blaze in the early hours of Friday morning (March 17).

Crews from across north Suffolk were called to the village near Beccles at about 2.50am.

A Suffolk Fire service spokesperson said: "An investigation is still ongoing into the cause of the fire.

"We would ask that people also protect themselves by keeping away from the site."

East Suffolk Council had been carrying out a clean-up operation after the blaze following concerns over hazardous material.

An East Suffolk Council spokesperson said: “Work to clear potentially hazardous material from the site of the fire and surrounding residential properties is now complete.

"If a resident finds any further debris from the fire in their garden, they are asked to contact East Suffolk Council on 03330 162000.”
