More than 150 girls from schools across north Suffolk enjoyed a fun afternoon of sporting activity.
Organised by the North Suffolk Sport and Health Partnership, a total of 160 girls in Year 6 from schools across the area took part in a fun focused ‘This Girl Can Festival’.
The event was successfully held for two hours at Waterlane in Lowestoft.
Jeffrey Hoey, partnership development manager at the North Suffolk Sport and Health Partnership, said: "On International Women’s day the government announced that £679m will be given to schools to support two hours of physical education, sport, opening up schools facilities and making equal access for girls the newly expected standard for schools.
"To celebrate this new national policy shift in school sport we provided 160 Year 6 Girls with an opportunity to take part in a fun focused ‘This Girl Can Festival’, and showcased local community activities opportunities."
Sponsored by Everyone Active, it saw events delivered by female coaches and 14 female leaders from Lowestoft Sixth Form College, who inspired the girls to have fun and enjoy the afternoon.
Sports were selected based on the opportunities available in Lowestoft for girls wishing to join community sessions - and these included football, tennis and cricket.
Emily Stebbings, from Racket Sports Academy, delivered the tennis activities and launched an exciting new girl’s tennis programme in partnership with Prime Video and the LTA.
Mr Hoey said: "In its fifth year this event has grown to become one of our biggest and best events of the year.
"As a partnership we have been offering equal access to our local events for many years, so it is great to see a national shift towards equal access.
"Locally with our 44 schools across Lowestoft, Beccles and Southwold 41 of them are actively involved with all our programmes and value the important of equal access."
