A picturesque village situated by the Broads will be hosting its first Green Day environmental afternoon.

Somerleyton, Ashby and Herringfleet Parish Council’s green and environmental group will be hosting the first Green Day in Somerleyton Village Hall on Saturday, May 13 from 11am – 4pm.

The public are invited to learn how to encourage wildlife in their garden, reduce waste, recycle more, save water, discover local footpaths, compost waste and much more to make their lives greener.

Joining the hosts will be Suffolk Wildlife Trust, Somerleyton School with news on their Green Day project, Essex and Suffolk Water and Wild East.

Children will be able to take part in fun quizzes, win prizes, and enjoy craft activities.

For gardeners there will be tips on how to attract wildlife into gardens, composting advice and offers, plant sales, and seed swaps

This event is sponsored by Essex and Suffolk Water which will be on hand with advice on how to save water and reduce costs.

Somerleyton is already leading the way in environmental initiatives as Suffolk Wildlife Trust has recently designated Somerleyton station as a wildlife friendly site.
