An 11-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of arson following a fire that ripped through a farmer's storage barn containing 30 tonnes of hay.

The barn on Rectory Lane in Worlingham, near Beccles, went up in flames at around 6pm on Sunday, April 2.

The fire lasted throughout the night and into the next day.

Suffolk Police have confirmed the 11-year-old boy was arrested on April 11, eight days after a 16-year-old girl was arrested on suspicion of arson in connection with the incident.

A Suffolk police spokesperson said: "A 16-year-old girl and an 11-year-old boy have both been arrested on suspicion of arson in connection with this incident.

"They were taken to Great Yarmouth Police Investigation Centre for questioning and have been bailed pending further enquiries."

The barn fire followed two earlier blazes, the first of which saw a caravan parked by the side of the A146 destroyed on the night of March 14.

A few days later, a disused community centre, also on Rectory Lane, was destroyed in a blaze which started at around 2am on March 17.

Police have confirmed that this was started deliberately. They have not given an update about the caravan fire.

All three incidents were within a 500m radius.

But the police say that the arrests of the 11-year-old boy and 16-year-old girl are "not being linked with the fire at the community centre".

Locals at the time spoke of their fears at the spate of fires.

One had said: "Worlingham is in flames. The whole community is worried and concerned."
