Riders still have time to sign up and enter in advance of a charity bike ride.

The deadline to enter in advance of the Beccles Cycle for Life annual charity ride this weekend – organised by the Rotary Club of Beccles – will only run to the end of Friday, May 12.

However, those who miss the advance registration deadline can still enter the family-friendly event on the day as the popular Beccles Cycle for Life charity ride returns this Sunday, May 14.

A Rotary spokesman for the event organisers said: "Those who miss the advance registration deadline can enter on the day at £25 per head and children are entered free."

With Norfolk and Suffolk Chartered Financial Planners making a donation that covers the children this year, the Rotary spokesman added: "It costs less to enter in advance, but either in advance or on the day the cost of this ride has been held down to compare favourably with other organised cycling events.

"It’s not a race.

"We want to encourage local people to ride as family groups as well as providing something for the faster riders, so there’s a suitable distance for everyone.

"Payment can be made by card or cash but it’s possible that the wonderful refreshments at the school provided by the Inner Wheel Club of Beccles may be cash only - so bring some just in case."

With Lord Somerleyton offering a prize of free entry for up to four people to the gardens at Somerleyton Hall for the rider who raises the most sponsorship, this year’s 21st ride is in aid of East Anglian Air Ambulance and the Rotary club’s charitable trust.

The charity ride will take place over distances of eight, 16, 25, 41 or 50 miles on country roads south of Beccles.

A certificate will be offered to all who finish.
