Police say no further action will be taken against a boy aged 11 and a girl aged 16 after they were arrested on suspicion of arson after 30 tonnes of hay went up in flames in a farmer's barn.

The fire happened at a barn on Rectory Lane in Worlingham, near Beccles, at around 6pm on Sunday, April 2.

The fire lasted throughout the night and into the next day.

Suffolk Police arrested the 11-year-old boy and the 16-year-old girl on suspicion of arson in connection with the incident.

But now two months later police have said no further action will be taken against them.

A Suffolk police spokesman said: "No further action is being taken against two young people interviewed by officers.

"Pending any new lines of enquiry the investigation is now closed.”

The barn fire followed two earlier blazes, the first of which saw a caravan parked by the side of the A146 destroyed on the night of March 14.

A few days later, a disused community centre, also on Rectory Lane, was destroyed in a blaze at around 2am on March 17.

Police have confirmed that this was started deliberately but say it is not linked to the barn fire.
