Controversial plans to extend the height of ten planned holiday lets in a quiet rural village have been withdrawn by the developer.

There was anger in Ringsfield, near Beccles, when plans were first approved 12 years ago to build ten holiday lodges in the village.

But in May 2023 the controversy was reignited as the applicant Paul Green filed a new application to increase the height of the holiday homes from one storey to two storey structures.

The amendment to the approved application from 2011 for the site on Church Road had stoked up feeling again in the village when it was lodged earlier this year.

However, it has emerged that Mr Green has withdrawn his variation on the original planning application that was approved 12 years ago.

Residents had already complained that the site is an "eyesore" and "barely anything" has been done on the land at all.

Bill Moore, 86 and who was in the RAF for two years before serving the Metropolitan Police in London for 26 years, has lived in the village for 40 years.

He is pleased the new plans have been withdrawn, but has accused Mr Green of not addressing the community about his aims, and says there is still mass objection in the village to the development.

Mr Moore said: "We are very pleased the new application has been withdrawn. This is the right course of action.

"Had it been approved we'd have campaigned fiercely against the destruction the plans would have done to our village.

"We would have put placards across the place showing our fury.

"What is a shame is how the applicant has failed to address any of us in the village, there has been no dialogue whatsoever."

This paper had approached Mr Green for a comment but received no response.
