Drone images have emerged showing the trail of destruction left by a 4x4 which was being chased by police before it was involved in a fatal crash.
A Land Rover Defender and a Nissan Juke crashed on the A143 near the Old Harleston Road junction close to Earsham at 4.30pm on Sunday (August 13).
A woman, who was travelling in the Nissan Juke, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Images show the aftermath of the moment the Land Rover veered into Earsham Park Farm's 32-acre field in a bid to evade police.
It was being pursued by several police cars as well as a police helicopter before it drove half a mile through the field, flattening 8ft high maize plants.
Assistant manager of Earsham Park Farm, Jim Aldous, 29, said: “I heard a police helicopter overhead and didn’t think anything of it.
“Then I got a phone call from someone working on the farm saying something was going on.
"When I got here I heard a big bang as the crash happened.
“We discovered that the car had been driven through the field. I don’t know if the police followed them in, but you can see tracks where it looks like two different cars came through.
“It is just terrible that a woman who was minding her own business ended up losing her life.
“I can only describe it as absolute carnage. There were cars driving around like headless chickens.
“Cars on the main road had stopped and there were police everywhere. People didn’t know what to do.”
The two men inside the Land Rover, in their 20s and 40s, were arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
At the time of the collision police officers investigating the suspected theft of a vehicle from Suffolk had been pursuing the Land Rover.
The incident was referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) by Norfolk and Suffolk Constabularies.
A spokesman from the IOPC said: “We can confirm we have decided to independently investigate police actions prior to a fatal road traffic collision in Norfolk on Sunday afternoon.
"After being notified by Norfolk Constabulary, we sent investigators to the scene and to the police post-incident procedure to begin our enquiries.”
Jeff Fry, 61, the landlord of the Wortwell Bell pub, said he was driving past the maize field when he saw the Land Rover drive back on to the A143.
He added: “I saw police standing on a corner by the field and then noticed a police helicopter overhead.
"I just drove past and thought, ‘What on earth is happening?'"
