Health bosses have put an action plan in place to help turn around a south Norfolk medical practice that has been rated as requiring improvement.

Chet Valley Medical Practice, near Loddon, had been rated as outstanding but now the Care Quality Commission says it requires improvement following an inspection.

Its findings revealed that not all patients could access care and treatment in a "timely way".

The watchdog had concerns about a lack of staff training to learn and adopt a new computer system.

Consequently, the failure to learn the computer system resulted in "backlogs of work" and "increased the levels of stress" among staff.

And as a result, the inspector was "not wholly" convinced that "safe and effective care" were always delivered to its patients.

The report said that moving forward the medical centre must "ensure care and treatment is provided in a safe way to patients" and "establish effective systems and processes to ensure good governance in accordance with the fundamental standards of care".

In response to the report, NHS Norfolk and Waveney said it is now working with the medical practice to "address the issues" as quickly as possible.

A spokesperson said: “NHS Norfolk and Waveney has been working alongside Chet Valley Medical Practice to address the key areas for improvement as outlined in the recent CQC report.

"An action plan has been developed to address the issues raised as quickly as possible.

“NHS Norfolk and Waveney would like to acknowledge the positive response from practice staff to actively take onboard the CQC findings and make the required improvements to ensure they deliver real positive change for their patients and staff.”

The medical practice's previous CQC inspection was held in January 2017 with it rated as outstanding.

Though the previous report had "identified areas of concern" which have been enhanced in the six-year gap between that inspection and the most recent one.

The practice is based at George House, 40-48 George Lane, Loddon.
