A sports and social club in Beccles has been crowned champions of a regional competition run by the Campaign for Real Ale.

Beccles Caxton Club has won the CAMRA Club of the Year for the East Anglia region prize for 2023 and is now competing against clubs country-wide for a national award.

The club says it has "a fantastic bar offering a healthy selection of wine, beer, spirits and soft drinks, with regularly changing guest ales, and a range of ciders".

Rod Cooper, chairman of the Beccles Caxton Club, is proud of the achievement of being regional champions and is excited to be competing on a national scale having claimed the regional prize.

Mr Cooper said: "Thanks to the committee, especially secretary Hazel, treasurer Shaun, and all the staff.

"But a special thanks to club steward Paul who searches the country far and wide for different ales, and his loyal cellar man Steve.

"Having got this far in the competition, we are now up against clubs country-wide to see who will be in the final four.

"This is a fantastic achievement for our club and the town."

The award was presented by Andrea Briers, the regional director of the East Anglian branch of CAMRA.
