A budding fashion designer could see their own costume worn on stage during a forthcoming panto production.

Lowestoft Players are inviting children to create an outfit for one of Cinderella’s ugly sisters when the show takes to the stage at the Marina Theatre in Lowestoft in January.

The competition, called 'Dress the Dame', is open to all who are 16 years and under.

Designs can include lots of detail, such as the fabrics to be used as shown on the example sheet for the Ladybird and Cup Cake costumes, or designs can simply be drawn and coloured as per the Sausage and Bacon, the Egg and the Liquorice Allsorts examples.

Stephen Wilson, member of the Lowestoft Players and designer of all of the example costumes, said: “There are no rules for this competition, other than designs should amuse, be original and colourful.”

All entries should be emailed to cinderella@lowestoftpanto.co.uk or posted to Players Theatre, Battery Green Road, Lowestoft NR32 1DE by midnight on Friday, December 15.

A panel of judges, including Mr Wilson, will then embark on what is expected to be the difficult task of picking a winner.

The creator of the best design will receive four complementary tickets to watch Cinderella, but best of all, the winning design will be created by the Wardrobe Team and be worn on stage during the pantomime.

“You don’t have to be an artist to enter this competition,” Mr Wilson said. “All that is needed are some colouring pencils, crayons or felt tip pens plus a great imagination.”

Cinderella will be performed at The Marina Theatre, Lowestoft from Saturday, January 20 to Sunday, January 28.

For those who would rather just watch, tickets are available from The Marina Theatre Box Office www.marinatheatre.co.uk or by phoning 01502 533200.
