An award has been created in tribute to tireless civic pride campaigner Luck Walker to thank individuals for making a difference in her home town.

The Lucy Robertson Walker Make A Difference Award will recognise businesses or individuals making a difference in Bungay.

It has been set up by Mrs Walker's father, Hugh Robertson, who knows just how dearly his daughter regarded Bungay.

The award, which includes a cash prize of £500, will be presented annually from next year at the Bungay Events & Business Association’s annual networking event, the Bungay Business Meet Up in February.

The event was inaugurated by Mrs Walker, who was the business association's deputy chair, in February 2022 to launch the new Better In Bungay campaign.

Mrs Walker was one of the main drivers of the campaign which was very well received.

If you see a Better in Bungay sticker in any of Bungay’s shop windows – it’s because Mrs Walker put it there.

Tragically Mrs Walker died aged 44 just a few months after the Better in Bungay launch but her name will live on through this new award – the Lucy Robertson Walker Make A Difference Award.

Didy Ward, the current BEBA chair, spoke highly of Mrs Walker's impact.

She said: “Lucy brought so much energy to Bungay.  It was a real pleasure working with her.

"She made projects that only existed on paper before coming to life.

"One was the Bungay Shoppa pilot project which she and I worked on with our county councillor, Judy Cloke.

"That went on to serve as the model for the new bus service in the more populous Lowestoft.

"I still miss Lucy’s enthusiasm and am delighted that BEBA can be involved in this new award to support and encourage others who are also making a difference in Bungay.

"Hugh Robertson’s generous sponsorship makes this possible."

Mrs Walker was also involved with the town's Christmas lights committee and organised jubilee events.
