Crime figures have shown there were 2,588 acts of violence and 319 burglaries reported to police in three Suffolk towns during 2022.

The crime data for Lowestoft, a town with a population of 68,000, showed 2,274 acts of violence (assaults) reported to Suffolk police.

In Beccles, a town with a population of around 10,000, there were 241 reported acts of violence in the same year. 

And in Bungay, a town with a population of more than 5,000, there were 73 reported acts of violence (assaults) in 2202. 

In the three towns combined there were 177 investigations which resulted in a charge being made by police.

Furthermore, in the three towns there were 1,731 investigations where a suspect was identified but not charged for acts of violence.

The data from 2015 to last year shows in 2019 Suffolk police made 291 charges over acts of violence - the highest over the time period.

Beccles & Bungay Journal: Suffolk police

2019 had seen 2,613 incidents of violence reported to Suffolk police.

In that same year, there were 1,697 incidents where a suspect was identified but not charged.

The crime data for 2022 shows in Lowestoft there were 319 burglaries reported to Suffolk police. In the same year, there were five in Bungay and 15 in Beccles.

Of the 339 burglaries in the three towns, 23 resulted in a charge being made. 

And out of 339 burglaries reported to the police, there were 34 incidents in that year where a suspect was identified and not charged for the offence.

In 2022 there were 4,528 occasions for all crimes in the three towns where a suspect was identified but not charged.

And for all crimes in total in 2022 there were 8,575 reported to Suffolk police and 710 investigations resulted in a charge being made.

Suffolk police said there were various other outcomes to someone not being charged for an offence, such as a caution or a community resolution.
