A Bungay resident has taken the fight against environmental crisis into her own hands and has helped a horse welfare charity at the same time.

Kate Jackson, from Sustainable Bungay, organised an equine Top Table Sale and Give and Take event which aimed to redirect items which would otherwise be headed for landfill and raise funds for Redwings at the same time.

The items find new homes where they can be reused, repaired or repurposed.

The event featured 23 vendors and was aiming to promote community resilience to the environmental crisis.

Ms Jackson said it was the perfect time of year for horse lovers' to have a spring clean and sort through of their items, especially when the weather restricted outdoor activities.

Ditchingham Village Hall was full to the brim with both sellers and buyers.

Ms Jackson said: "Items that people were happy to donate, were placed in the Give and Take area, with many shoppers finding things that had little resale value, but could still be used."

Ms Jackson is a guardian for Redwings Horace, a once nervous horse, now placing within the top 30 worldwide online with The International Horse Agility Club.

The sales of vendors' pitches were donated to Redwings Horse Sanctuary, raising a total of £175.

This money will support the welfare society's ongoing work in making it the biggest horse welfare society in the UK.

Besides the financial contribution, the event resulted in the donation to Redwings of six large sacks full of left-over items with only one sack of unusable items heading to landfill.

If anyone wishes to arrange a similar event, Ms Jackson offered to give guidance and share her tips via email at sustainablebungay@hotmail.com.
