Beccles roads closed due to building repair and gas works

The roof on St Peters House in Beccles on the top of Puddingmoor is being repaired.

As a result, the top of the road between The Waveney House Hotel and the Old Market Bus Station has been closed while the work is carried out.

The homeowner has posted on Facebook to apologise for the inconvenience caused and explain the necessity of the closure.

He said that it is important that the roof is repaired to "protect against weather damage to the very rare plaster work on the ceilings".

Suffolk County Council have closed the road while the scaffolding is up and the repairs are carried out.

The county council website says that the road is not expected to be open until June 27.

To access the Lido by car, motorists have to follow the diversion and enter Puddingmoor from Bungay Road B1062.

The homeowner added: "I can assure you that we would not be doing this unless we absolutely had to so thank you in advance for your forbearance."

Another road closure in the town has begun for a major gas mains replacement which is being carried out by Cadent.

A stretch of Grove Road, between the railway crossing and Common Lane, has been closed for the duration of the works.

Access to Common Lane, and to Old Farm Road and the residential streets leading off it, will all be from the top of Grove Road, which will become two-way traffic for the duration of the works.

Parking on the top section of Grove Road has been suspended while the work is completed.

There will be traffic lights at the junction between Grove Road and Common Lane to control traffic.

It is expected that this work will be completed until April 25.
