A man who was found guilty of raping a woman and a 28-year-old who stole from a fire station are among those jailed in Suffolk this week.

Nicholas Ryan 

Nicholas Ryan has been jailed for more than nine years after he was found guilty of raping a woman. 

Ryan, 33, of Defoe Road in Ipswich, was convicted of two counts of rape and two counts of attempted rape following a four-day trial in January.

The offences took place over a one-year period. 

He was jailed for nine years and six months, as well as five years on licence.

Alexander Gibb 

Alexander Gibb has been sentenced to 18 months in jail for burglary offences. 

Gibb, 28, of Clapham Road North in Lowestoft, pleaded guilty to two counts of burglary, aggravated vehicle taking, criminal damage and assaulting a police officer at Ipswich Crown Court on Monday. 

Gibb broke into Halesworth Fire Station and stole equipment worth over £30,000, while he also stole two motorbikes in Beccles.

Of the 18 month sentence, he will spend half of that behind bars.

Alper Basoglu

Alper Basoglu has been jailed for seven years after police discovered he was selling cocaine and cannabis.

Basoglu, 26, of Ipswich, pleaded guilty to a total of seven drug offences. 

In September 2022, a parcel from Los Angeles addressed to Basoglu's Ipswich home was intercepted by UK Border Force.

Officers found 1.06kg of herbal cannabis inside. 

A warrant was obtained to search his home, where police found £14,180 in cashm 136.9g of cannabis, 4.64g of cocaine, 460 intact clonazepam tablets and drug paraphernalia, a machete and a BB gun.

Basoglu, who is currently serving a sentence at HMP Norwich, was jailed for seven years and two months.

Sullivan Lee

Sullivan Lee was jailed for 20 months for breaking into a home and stealing a car. 

Lee, 22 and of no fixed address, entered a home in Gisleham in June last year by smashing a window. 

Once inside, he stole the keys to a Volkswagen Golf that was parked outside.

The car was driven in a manner that caused enough significant damage to write off the car.
