The headteacher of an academy school in west Suffolk is set to leave after six years in the job. 

Andy Hunter was first appointed headteacher at Samuel Ward Academy in Haverhill in 2018. 

The school, which is part of Unity Schools Partnership, has confirmed he will be leaving the post this summer to become headteacher at Hinchingbrooke School in Cambridgeshire.

A letter sent to parents by Sue Kehr, chair of governors, said: "We have been extremely fortunate to have had Mr Hunter as our headteacher since 2018 and he will be sorely missed.

"We congratulate him on his appointment."

Tom Johnston, who was previously headteacher at St Mary's School in Bishop's Stortford, will take on the role of interim headteacher at the Chalkstone Way school from September. 

Tim Coulson, chief executive of Unity Schools Partnership, added: “It has been a pleasure to work with Andy Hunter and he will be much-missed in Haverhill and across the trust. We are hugely grateful for all his work and wish him very well as he prepares to move to his next headship.”
