An area of water in Loddon is blocked off after a late night boat fire.

The blaze on the abandoned 18 foot vessel near Pyes Mill Road happened at around 11.30pm on Saturday, April 15.

Firefighters from Carrow and Earlham were first on the scene followed by police officers, after being alerted by the coastguard.

Inspector Jerry Wright, duty inspector of Norfolk Police control room, said officers were alerted to the blaze at 1.15am on Sunday, April 16.

He said the boat had an abandonment notice on it and it is believed the vessel had been empty for about three weeks.

Insp Wright added the fire caused the boat to partially sink and the incident was being dealt with by the Broads Authority.

It is not known what caused the fire.

Witnesses or anyone with information should call Norfolk police on 101.
