All Hallows boosted by donation

THE day treatment and therapy centre at All Hallows Hospital in Ditchingham has been boosted by a donation in memory of a man who was treated there.

David and Pam Rix and Brian and Gloria Dickerson, aunts and uncles of Kevin Rix, presented a cheque for £1,150.08 to the centre, situated in the grounds of the hospital.

The cheque was accepted by staff nurse Lynn Wright and nursing assistant Angela Hall, who both knew Kevin well up to the time of his death from Hodgkins Lymphona, earlier this year.

The money was raised from donations from Kevin's funeral and from a family member, who at 60 years of age, with no climbing experience, completed a sponsored climb to Scafell Pike the highest mountain in England - standing at 978m - to raise funds for Kevin's Appeal.

Kevin's cousin Karen Sayer decided to have a raffle at her 40th birthday party and the proceeds went towards buying the bench.

Kevin, who lived at Ditchingham, attended the daycare centre at All Hallows for almost two years and was very popular with staff and others attending daycare. The staff have very fond memories of Kevin, his humour, in particular. Despite his health problems they said he always remained cheerful. He was a willing volunteer, playing Father Christmas for those in daycare and the hospital patients. He also discovered his flair for craft while in daycare, especially card-making; he was even commissioned to make special cards for people.

Kevin died in April, and is missed and remembered by all who new him as “simply the best”.

A heartfelt thanks goes to all the people that helped to raise funds for Kevin's Appeal. Kevin wanted to raise money for the centres and people that supported him. Donations have also been made to James Paget Hospital at Gorleston, were Kevin was cared for. The donation given to the centre will be put towards an outside covered area for the people attending daycare to enjoy.
