With almost 30 fire crews from across Suffolk and Norfolk called to tackle the blaze in Halesworth Road, which took seven hours to control, at its height 12 fire crews battled the flames.

Emergency services were called at around 10.30pm last night (Friday), with the fire understood to have started in an outbuilding and spread to a thatched barn, which is close to the B1123 road and is used as offices and storage space.

The outbuilding was completely destroyed in the blaze, with about 70pc of the roof of the main building lost in the fire.

One fire crew currently remains at the scene today (Saturday), damping down and checking for hotspots.

A brigade spokesman said: “The fire was declared under control at 5.43am on December 9.

“A fire investigation is to take place later today (December 9).”

The spokesman added it is believed that no one was in the building at the time.

Police attended and closed the road last night as the outbuilding had collapsed into the road. The road remained closed today.
