A LODDON street with a history of arson attacks in the early hours has been targeted once again.

Fire crews were called out to The Walks just after 3.30am yesterday after rubbish in a wheelie bin at the front of a bungalow had been set alight.

The flames spread to the gutter and door of the building.

Police are treating the crime, and a second fire started in a bin in nearby George Lane less than an hour later, as arson.

The street has a high population of elderly people, and it is not the first time it has been singled out for fire-raising.

A man asleep at home in The Walks escaped unharmed after being woken by neighbours when his bungalow was the subject of a suspected arson attack last October.

It is believed an adjoining shed was set alight.

After that scare - the latest in a number of fires started in bins in Loddon - firefighter Steven Crisp designed a leaflet to hand out to householders in The Walks and old people's clubs advising townspeople to take care where they kept their bins at night.

Graham Joy, Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service's risk manager for the area, said his team was continuing to work with the police and local people to address the issue.

Information to Norfolk police on 0845 456 4567 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
